This site is going to give you answers to all your questions. Whether you're looking for a wedding photographer, or someone to photograph your family, or a photographer who can capture the essence of your child's personality, after a few minutes browsing this site, you will know everything you need to know.

But First, A Little About Us....

My name is Roy Thomas and I started Black Dog Photography in Hoboken, NJ about 10 years ago as a career change.  Prior, I was an executive at a consulting firm in Manhattan and by most measuring sticks, successful.   However, photography had grown into a passion and I decided to leave corporate life to pursue a career in the field I loved.  Soon after I started the company a college intern named Emily Schlipf agreed to help me organize my studio a few hours a week.  Little did I know how talented and driven she is.  I shared every thing I knew with Emily.  Fast forward 8 years and "WE" are Black Dog.  Emily recently achieved high honors in the photography world by passing her CPP exam.  (CPP=Certified Professional Photographer, Less than 3% of photographers have this distinction.)     We also teach photographic lighting workshops to other photographers at the New Jersey Center For Visual Arts, an art school in Summit, NJ.

Black Dog prides itself in blazing new trails using new technologies to manage our studio and enhance our client's experience.  The PPA (Professional Photographers of America) also saw her talent and technology acumen and have asked her to speak at regional PPA meetings about automation, technology and Black Dog's innovations.

Additionally, Fuji America often features Black Dog images in their national photography convention/expo tour.   

Adorama in Manhattan has also chosen Black Dog to provide images for their new and innovative photography books that feature entire Black Dog weddings.  These books are displayed nationally at photography expos and at their Manhattan headquarters.  Adorama is one of the nation's largest providers of professional photography equipment and printing services.

We've appeared in numerous publications and on several wedding reality shows.  Most recently,"Say Yes To The Dress".  We've also photographed hundreds of cakes from Buddy Valastro "The Cake Boss".   Hey, we're from Hoboken!

As one of the most experienced and successful studios on the NJ waterfront we are a "recommended vendor" at several premium venues including the Hyatt Jersey City, the Liberty House, the new "W" Hotel Hoboken, the Westin in Jersey City, Bonnet Island Estate and Mallard Island Yacht Club both in Long Beach Island, NJ. 

Recently we've expanded to Mystic, CT and are a recommended vendor at the new and amazingly popular Saltwater Farm Vineyard.

If you're like most people, you probably get a bit overwhelmed as you surf through hundreds of websites and realize there are a lot of photographers to choose from. How do you decide who to go to? The websites all look trendy with interesting effects and they all say "photojournalistic" or something similar. But who is a real professional and not just a weekend warrior? Who has real experience? Who can I TRUST to photograph my biggest day?
